Mike Pompeo, former US Secretary of State, made groundless accusations and ill-intended smear attack against Xinjiang. It fully exposes his evil intention of grossly interfering in China’s internal affairs under the pretext of human rights. As a Uygur intellectual, I strongly condemn and oppose it.

The affairs in Xinjiang are China’s internal affairs and any outside forces have no rights to interfere. As a country of the rule of law, China has always conducted counter-terrorism in Xinjiang with facts as the basis and the law as the criterion. In accordance with the laws such as the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China, the Criminal Law of the People’s Republic of China, and the Counter-terrorism Law of the People’s Republic of China, China combines striking at terrorism with safeguarding human rights. On the one hand, great importance is attached to striking at all sorts of violent and terrorist activities that endanger public security, undermine ethnic unity, and split the country and making every effort to protect the fundamental human rights of citizens from violation by terrorism and extremism; on the other hand, offenders who have committed minor crimes under the influence of religious extremism will be educated, rehabilitated and protected in order to avoid falling victim to terrorism and religious extremism to the greatest extent possible. The so-called “violation of human rights against ethnic minorities” does not exist in Xinjiang.

Xinjiang lawfully takes preventive counter-terrorism and de-radicalization measures, effectively protects the stability and safety of 25 million residents including Uygurs in Xinjiang. There hasn’t been any violent or terrorist case over the past four years or so, with a drastic fall in criminal cases, cases of endangering public security and public security cases. The truth proves that the countermeasures against terrorism and deradicalization are very effective to curb the rise of violent or terrorist cases, maintain social stability, boost economic development and lay solid foundations for building a united, harmonious, prosperous, culturally advanced and ecologically healthy socialist society for a new era where people live and work in peace and contentment.

Pompeo, our Xinjiang publishes newspapers, books, audio and video products, and e-publications in six spoken and written languages --- Chinese, Uygur, Kazak, Kirgiz, Mongolian and Xibe to meet the demands for cultural life of the people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang. What about your country? How do you have the cheek to discuss human rights and freedom? What reason do you have to criticize the situation of human rights in Xinjiang? The people of all ethnicities in Xinjiang have the final say over it.

The peace, harmony and prosperity are hard-won, cherished by the people of all ethnicities in Xinjiang. We do not allow Pompeo to distort the facts and maliciously slander human rights in Xinjiang. We do not allow Pompeo to launch an ill-intended smear attack against de-extremism and fighting terrorism in Xinjiang. We do not allow Pompeo to viciously attack China’s policies to govern Xinjiang. Any anti-force cannot prevent the people of all ethnicities in Xinjiang from forging ahead in solidarity. They fail to deny the truth of human rights progress in Xinjiang, let alone hinder the drive of prosperity and development in Xinjiang.

Pompeo, we Uygur intellectuals unswervingly uphold the leadership of CPC and strengthen the sense of community for the Chinese nation and will never be deceived by American politicians’ tricks. Any petty distractions to block China’s development in the disguise of human rights will be doomed to failure. Any conspiring to drive a wedge between ethnicities in Xinjiang and contain China’s development is bound to fail and become a laughing stock in history.

We Chinese people never stir up trouble, but never fear to get into trouble. The people of all ethnicities in Xinjiang have a rock-solid will to safeguard national unity and ethnic solidarity. Nothing will stop our journey to achieve the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Pompeo, take back your mouthful lies and shut your dirty mouth.
