Mutallip Qasim, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Xinjiang People’s Congress
Upon leaving office a few days ago, US former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo staged “doomsday madness” with lies and pernicious slanders against Xinjiang, denigrating Xinjiang commits “crimes against humanity” and “genocide” against Uygur Muslims and other ethnic minorities. Shocked by his last moment madness, I must express my indignation about and condemnation of his fallacies.
As is admitted “We lied, we cheated, we stole,” Pompeo, the worst ever secretary of state in American history, takes it as his creed and himself has become a laughing stock and a byname of notoriety. His labeling that Xinjiang commits so-called “crimes against humanity” and “genocide” defies the fact and amounts to sheer nonsense. It is nothing but a fake sensational proposition and a ill-intended farce he intentionally staged. Shouting nonsense and overrating himself in the last of his days in office, Pompeo and his lies are bounded to be swept into the dustbin and to be spurned by people.
People of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang are in best position to comment on the condition of human rights in the region, which is in its best period in history. It is the truest and most objective perception of people in Xinjiang. For a time over the years, Xinjiang, faced with the grave situation of frequent violent terrorist attacks, has held firmly on to the general goal of maintaining social stability and lasting peace, upholding the banner of rule of law and governing Xinjiang according to law. No single case of violent terrorism has been occurred in Xinjiang for the past four years. The numbers of criminal cases, public security cases, cases of endangering public security and public safety incidents have all fallen significantly. People of all ethnicities feel a lot safer and more confident about social stability and enduring peace in the region.
Now, Joyful scenes are back with dancing and singing; people are donned with stylish clothes; morning and nights markets are reopened. Social stability, ethnic unity, religious harmony and peaceful life have restored across Xinjiang. Unprecedented improvement has been made in the regions’ social and economic development and people livelihoods; People of all ethnic groups’ sense of gain, happiness and security has dramatically enhanced.
From 2014 to 2019, the GDP in Xinjiang rose from 919.59 billion yuan to 1.35 trillion yuan, with an annual growth rate of 7.2%, showing sustained improvement in the region’s economy. People’s disposable income grew 9.1% y-o-y; People’s livelihoods have improved significantly. People of all ethnic groups have had increasingly better lives in the common development of the country. Decisive achievements have been secured in poverty alleviation and the goal building a moderately prosperous society in all respects is about to reach. 3,666 poverty-stricken villages and 32 towns have shaken off poverty, and 3.0649 million people have been lifted out of poverty. The objectives of “two no worries and three guarantees”-adequate food and clothing, and education, and basic healthcare and safe housing-have been securely met. At present, Xinjiang’s population keeps a stable growth. From 2010-2018, permanent residents in the region grew to 24.8676 million from 2181.58 million, up 3.0518 million in number or 13.99 in percentage. Uygur population grew to 12.7184 million from 10.1715 million, up 3.0518 million in number or 13.99 in percentage. The increase in Uygur population not only exceeds that of the regional overall population but also is higher than that of ethnic minorities’ and is far above that of Han’s. Our practice has proven CPC’s polices in Xinjiang in the new era are correct and wise.
As a Uygur saying goes “Though dogs are barking, the camel caravan keeps on moving.” I hereby have the urge to say: “goodbye, Pompeo; no more of your lies.”
