Lies Cannot Cover Truth

Rexiat Aishan, Assistant Research Fellow, Law Institute, Xinjiang Academy of Social Sciences

On January 19, 2020, Mike Pompeo, the former US Secretary of State, a liar by nature, released a statement declaring on behalf of the State Department a determination that “China has committed crimes against humanity and genocide against Muslim Uyghurs and other members of ethnic minority groups in Xinjiang”. This notorious liar and cheater made himself a doomed clown and a joke of the century with his show of lies and madness just before the curtain fell.

“China committing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang” is a completely false allegation and a malicious farce fabricated and hyped up by certain anti-China, anti-communist forces. Making Xinjiang an issue and heaping accusations on it is the customary tricks of Pompeo and his likes. They time and again slander and defile China by fabricating the sheer lies such as so-called “forced sterilization”, “forced labour” and “torture” and attempt to drag Xinjiang into the trap of human rights and Xinjiang affairs into the toolkit of interfering in China’s internal affairs. Fundamentally, they aim to destroy the safety and stability in Xinjiang and hinder its advance by fabricating the so-called Xinjiang-related issue. Pompeo’s lies on Xinjiang and other matters are not only major insults on the 1.4 billion Chinese people including 25 million Xinjiang residents, but also major insults on the judgment of American people and the international community.

Facts speak louder than words. With great patience, China has time and again elaborated on facts and truth regarding Xinjiang. The State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China published eight white papers and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region held 23 press briefings to present with solid figures and facts a life of stability, solidarity and harmony enjoyed by all ethnic groups in Xinjiang. All these facts are adequate for Pompeo and his likes to learn about what’s happening in Xinjiang. The life expectancy of Xinjiang residents has increased from 30 to 72 years over the past six decades. The Uyghur population increased by 25.04 % from 2010 to 2018, higher than that of the whole Xinjiang population, which stood at 13.99 %, and much higher than the growth rate of the Han population, which was 2 %. From 2014 to 2019, the total number of people employed in Xinjiang rose from 11.35 million to 13.3 million, with an increase of 17.2 %. From 2014 to 2019, the per capita disposable income of urban residents in Xinjiang increased from RMB 23,200 to RMB 34,700 (an average annual nominal growth of 8.6 %) and that of rural residents increased from RMB 8,724 to RMB 13,100 (an average annual nominal growth of 8.9 %).

Facts are sacred. If Pompeo and his likes are unwilling to read these statistics, they might as well see Xinjiang with others’ eyes. In 2019, domestic and foreign travelers made over 200 million trips to Xinjiang. The region has received 1,200-plus diplomats, journalists and representatives of religious groups from more than 100 countries, who witnessed unity, amity and happiness among various ethnic groups as well as the scenic views of Xinjiang. At present, the 1.4 billion Chinese people of 56 ethnic groups are enjoying a life of stability, solidarity and harmony and getting united closely as seeds of pomegranate. This is pure truth of what is happening in Xinjiang. Pompeo cannot smear it.

Lies told for one thousand times remain to be lies. History will deliver a fair verdict on these liars and the day of reckoning will come. They will become a joke of the century. The Chinese government is firmly resolved to defend China’s national sovereignty, security and development interests. China has decided to sanction 28 persons including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former White House trade adviser Peter Navarro and other ex-senior officials who have seriously violated China’s sovereignty and who have been mainly responsible for such US moves on China-related issues.

We must remind Pompeo and his likes of the fact that your evil acts of doomed clowns will be inevitably pinned onto the shameful pole of human history. There is no better place than the dustbin of history for Pompeo and all his vicious lies and influence.
