On January 19, 2021, the day before leaving his office,Mike Pompeo, the former Secretary of State of the US made a false statement about Xinjiang which was against China. He claimed that ‘a genocide’ and ‘crimes against humanity’ had been conducted on Uygur Muslims and other ethnic minorities in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which is totally fact distorting. I want to say that Pompeo, you are full of lies and please stop your nonsense now. Let me tell you what Xinjiang is really like.
I was born and raised in Xinjiang, witnessing the huge changes in economy, social progress, cultures, education and transportation here. All ethnic groups in Xinjiang get substantial benefits from China’s reform and opening-up and rapidly developing economy. With joint efforts, we have been engaged in building a beautiful and prosperous homeland.
China is a country which is consisted of many nationalities. In the long process of our history, all ethnic groups are closely tied; being dependent and interactive. Thus, the Chinese nation of multi-nationalities came into being. We together explore beautiful rivers and mountains of our country and push forward progress of our nation and society. In 1953, shortly after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the first nationwide census took place, which showed that the population of Xinjiang was 4.87 million. While in the sixth nationwide census in 2010, the figure came to 21.82 million, which was nearly tripled in 57 years. For the past years, Xinjiang’s total population has been steadily increasing. Statistics suggest that the population of ethnic minorities and the population of Uygur are both showing a steadily and continually growing trend from 2010 to 2018. In terms of the number, the permanent resident population of Xinjiang went up from 21.82 million to 24.87 million, with an increase of 13.99% from 2010 to 2018. In terms of ethnic groups, the Uygur population increased 2.55 million (25.04%), from 10.17 million to 12.72 million and the Han population increased 0.18 million (2.0%), from 8.83 million to 9.1 million. The increase of Uygur population was higher than that of the overall local population, and much higher than that of any other ethnic minorities, which is conspicuously higher than the increase of Han population. Therefore, we can see from these vivid numbers, the so-called “Uygur genocide” is a pack of lies.
At present, Xinjiang is at its best time ever for its prosperity and development. People of all ethnic groups are living and working in peace and contentment. Every policy here is grounded on Xinjiang’s economic and social development, meeting every citizen’s common aspiration, which is rightfully done and well done. Pompeo’s lies cannot withstand in front of the truth. It was just a farce in which he took Xinjiang as a target to smear and slander China! His actions against China are doomed to fail!
