A Happy Life Shouldn’t Be Denigrated, and the Truth is not to Be Argued

Zaynawudun·Yusen, Vice President, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Committee of Xinjiang Medical University

Recently, Mike Pompeo issued a Xinjiang-related statement in the name of the U.S. State Department, which is another groundless attack to slander the Chinese government's policies on Xinjiang and gross interference in China's internal affairs under the guise of human rights. Such anti-China forces are trying to drive a wedge between China's ethnic groups, undermine Xinjiang's stability, hinder Xinjiang's development and mislead international public opinion. As a Uygur born and raised in Xinjiang, I think Pompeo's remarks are ignorant, shameless, laughable and hateful.

I was born in an ordinary rural family in Ili, Xinjiang. My parents are both farmers and I am the youngest son. In such an ordinary and warm big family, I grew up healthily and happily. In 1995, I was admitted to Xinjiang Medical University majoring in Clinical Medicine. Due to my excellent performance in school, I got a job at the Xinjiang Medical University after graduation. Under the education and training of the CPC, I made every effort to work hard in college education and student management. Moreover, I participated in the poverty alleviation work of south Xinjiang for three times in five years and experienced the grassroots training. In 2018, under the careful cultivation and care of the organization, I became a young Uygur university-level cadre. There are many Uygur people around me who have the same experience. They have received good education, enjoyed the preferential policies of the Communist Party of China, and lived a happy life with harmonious families. This is a basic fact of Xinjiang. Our personal experience has shown again that all ethnic groups in Xinjiang enjoy the right to receive education, pursue common rights to have a career, and enjoy common access to get promotion. If, according to Pompeo's words, "the Communist Party of China has committed crimes against humanity against the Uygurs and other ethnic minorities," then how could I become the youngest vice principal and the Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Committee of Xinjiang Medical University and be selected to take a temporary post in Beijing?

Currently, Xinjiang enjoys sustained economic development, social harmony and stability, continuous improvement of people's livelihood, unprecedented cultural prosperity and religious harmony, people of all ethnic groups are closely united in the best period of prosperity in history. Everyone who is born and raised in the land of Xinjiang can personally feel the happier and better life that we are living in Xinjiang. The statistics are best statements. From 2014 to 2019, Xinjiang's GDP grew at an average annual rate of 7.2%, and its per capita disposable income grew at an average annual rate of 9.1%. Under the current standard, 3.0649 million impoverished people have been lifted out of poverty, 3,666 poor villages and 32 poor counties have been lifted out of poverty. Xinjiang achieved a decisive victory in poverty alleviation. At the same time, Xinjiang has given priority to supporting education in South Xinjiang. The four prefectures in South Xinjiang have taken the lead in realizing full coverage of 3-year preschool education and 12-year basic education, and 15 years of free education in rural areas in South Xinjiang. Xinjiang's social security system is also gradually perfected. Free health examinations are available for all citizens, with 99.7% participation rate of the basic medical insurance for residents.

As a Xinjiang native who is currently studying and working in the National Health Commission, I have witnessed that the average life expectancy in Xinjiang has increased from 30 to 72 years in the past 60 years, and the Uygur population has continued to grow, increased by 25.04% from 2010 to 2018. With these data, I feel deeply proud of my country. This is the best answer to the prosperity and stability of Xinjiang and the common progress of all ethnic groups.

Facts speak louder than words, and justice is in people’s hearts. No slander can stop the people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang from marching forward in unity. No rumor can erase the fact that the cause of human rights in Xinjiang has made progress. No conspiracy can interfere with the development and prosperity of Xinjiang. Pompeo's vicious attack on China will not deceive the world, nor will it discredit China and stop China's development.
