On the last day before leaving office, the former US Secretary of State Pompeo showed “excessive” concern for Xinjiang, China. He used his last time at office to issue a statement on the official website of the US State Department, attacked and smeared the Chinese government’s policy on Xinjiang, and interfered in China’s internal affairs under the pretext of human rights. This farce of “Anti-China show” directed and performed by him will only put him on the wrong side of history and will surely be judged by history. As a Uyghur growing up and living in Xinjiang, I strongly condemn and firmly oppose his abominable behavior.
I am a Uyghur intellectual who came from a small county in south Xinjiang. As a person who grew up and lived here, I don’t need the advice of an “Anti-China” politician who has never stepped into this land. When I was very young, I heard my parents tell me about the real experiences of their fathers and brothers and sisters from all over the world living in the same shelter under the same roof and participating in the construction of roads, forests, water conservancy and other construction projects. As long as I can remember, I have been playing, learning and growing together with my ethnic partners. In my life, I have been accompanied by teachers, classmates, leaders, colleagues and friends of all ethnic groups. They cared about me and helped me like elders and brothers. They were the most precious treasure in my life. Various ethnic groups living in Xinjiang should have a common experience. No matter it was the Eid al-Adha, the Spring Festival or other traditional Chinese festivals, every family would prepare exquisite festival food at home and wait for relatives and friends’ visit. In the long-term cultural integration, people of all ethnic groups naturally form a festival atmosphere of “you come to my home to eat sanzi, I come to your home to eat Jiaozi”. This kind of cultural inheritance is not forced by anyone, but a conscious action formed by the continuation of the excellent tradition of the Chinese nation for thousands of years.
During my three years in Yecheng County, Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang. I had the honor to participate in and personally witnessed the earth-shaking changes in Xinjiang and the unprecedented achievements in economic and social development. In terms of education, three-year preschool education and twelve-year basic education have been fully covered in south Xinjiang, which has completely eliminated the phenomenon of dropping out of school. The enrollment rate of college and secondary school students has increased year by year, and the educational level of the population has been greatly improved. Students from poor families can apply for scholarships and grants during school, avoiding the situation of dropping out of school caused by various objective reasons. In the aspect of rural revitalization, every household enjoys the government subsidies and lives in the comfortable houses. The government funds to improve the courtyard of farmers, which makes the courtyard full of vitality, the asphalted road is built to the doors, the street lights illuminate the people at night, running water is connected to the kitchen and toilet, the annual free health examination of the whole people is fully implemented, and the basic medical insurance coverage rate of residents has reached 99.7% %. Clean and tidy clinics have been built in every village, and village doctors have been assigned in every village. Every household has contracted doctors to provide regular on-site services, and tuberculosis patients have received comprehensive and effective free treatment. In terms of employment, every village has built a business street, which has created a platform for families willing to start their own businesses, so that villagers can buy necessities at home. The government takes the initiative to connect with enterprises, creating opportunities for villagers to go out to work.
As publicity personnel, implementer and witness of these policies, I am extremely proud to see that all 32 poverty-stricken counties in Xinjiang have taken off poverty and that the problem of absolute poverty in Xinjiang has been solved historically. I am also proud to grow up in such a great era and powerful country. Today, each inch of the land in Xinjiang presents a good situation of social stability, economic prosperity and people’s living and working in peace and contentment. The sense of attainment, happiness and security of the people of all ethnic groups are constantly increasing. This is a visible and tangible fact. I believe that all those who speak of justice will stand on the right side.
However, Pompeo cannot bear the happy and prosperous situation of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, and is always prone to be “green-eyed”. Pompeo may be suffering from “selective amnesia”. During his term of office, he did nothing on racial issues, allowing the spread of racial discrimination and the rise of white supremacy, which caused ethnic minorities to be discriminated against in all fields such as politics, economy, culture and social life in the United States. What Pompeo has done violates international justice and norms of values, the morality and basic conscience of mankind, the concept of international human rights and the principles of conventions, and will surely be rejected by the world.
Facts speak louder than words, and liars will be judged by history. Pompeo’s clown behavior and unreasonable lies are just like kicking against the pricks, and will be nailed to the stigma of history!
