Recently, the former US Secretary of State Pompeo played his doomsday madness to the extreme, spreading shameless and false statements that Chinese government has committed “crimes against humanity” and “genocide” against ethnic and religious minorities including the Uygur in Xinjiang. As the saying goes, “seeing is believing”, people who have not been to Xinjiang are not qualified to gossip about the situation in Xinjiang, let alone shamelessly spread these absurd and vicious words about Xinjiang. In my opinion, Pompeo needs to go to Xinjiang to have a look with his own eyes and take a walk on the spot. He doesn’t have any basic understanding of Xinjiang, and his series of remarks are just nonsense.
As a Uygur teacher, I was born in Xinjiang, grew up in Xinjiang, and also rooted in Xinjiang. I scoff at this kind of lie which is full of fallacies and can not stand any scrutiny. I have the responsibility to expose such a lie with conscience and the will of pursuing truth.
Since the reform and opening up, our Uygur culture has been effectively protected and carried forward. The Uygur people in Xinjiang have the right to use their own language according to law. Xinjiang’s radio and television network broadcast in the languages of ethnic minorities, such as Uygur, Kazak, Kirgiz etc. The number of newspapers and books published in Uygur language is increasing, and The Uygur Muqam art listed in the list of representative works of human intangible cultural heritage of the UNESCO is performed all year round in Xinjiang, and the rights of people of all ethnic groups are fully and effectively guaranteed. In recent years, Xinjiang’s economy has achieved high-quality development. Numerous figures and irrefutable facts show the good situation of Xinjiang’s harmonious, stable and prosperous development, and the progress of Xinjiang’s human rights cause.
As far as I am concerned, during my 29 years of working, I have been engaged in Chinese teaching for minority students in the first 17 years, and Uygur teaching in the last 12 years. In the past, I used to use the standard national language for teaching and communication with Chinese majors. Now I use Uygur language for teaching and communication with Uygur majors. Whether engaged in Chinese teaching or Uygur language teaching, I usually choose the national language or Uygur language according to the inherent law of language teaching. I hope that I can train excellent professionals for the country with my language specialty.
Facts speak louder than words. Today Xinjiang is in the best period of development in history. Xinjiang presents a good situation of social stability and people’s living and working in peace and contentment. In Xinjiang, we often say: “Our motherland is a good place, and beautiful scenery is all over the Tianshan Mountains”. This is the case in Xinjiang today. Basking in the warmth and freshness of spring breeze, people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang are pursuing a happy future.
