Maimaiti Wayiti, Director of Hami Natural Disaster Comprehensive Monitoring and Warning Center
Pompeo and Adrian Zenz, habitual liars, constantly remarking wantonly, published and concocted all kinds of big lies and malicious hypes without any moral principle, attacking and slandering China’s policy of governing Xinjiang on groundless basis, in a futile attempt to stir up ethnic dissensions and destroy the good situation of social stability and unity in Xinjiang with various lies confusing right and wrong, so as to achieve the evil conspiracy of containing China’s development. I am extremely indignant at this, and strongly condemn and resolutely oppose it! The majority of Uygurs like me in the Chinese family will never be blinded by their lies, nor will they be arbitrarily manipulated.
I was born and grew up in a Uygur civil worker’s family in a small frontier county. This is a small county where Uygur, Han, Kazakh, Hui and other ethnic groups live in harmony. I grew up playing with my friends from all ethnic groups. We get along very well with each other. Looking back on my growth process, I feel that we are living in a relaxed and just social atmosphere. When I was in middle school, I was determined to study in an inland university. During the university study, all the staff, from the school leaders to the teachers, gave meticulous care and help to us ethnic minority students who came to the inland university from the frontier of our motherland, providing us with the best learning and living conditions. We studied together with students from all over the country, and we felt the deep affection that we have “brothers everywhere”.
Since I started my professional career, whether in my life or in my study and work, my colleagues from all ethnic groups have given me meticulous care and help, and I have gradually grown into a party member and a leading official at the county and department level. My three younger brothers, like me, have also received higher education and have their own career, and have made contributions to the development and social stability of Xinjiang in their respective posts. My parents have retired, and they are not worried about seeing a doctor and their life. The community has provided them with entertainment places for the elderly and created many convenient conditions. Our parents often teach us to cherish our happy life and the kindness of the Party, and conduct by following Party’s guidance and policies. My wife is a primary school teacher. Children of all ethnic groups in her school are studying and playing together very happily. My daughter is in the third grade of high school and can communicate fluently in the standard national language and Uygur language. The happy life of our family benefits from the good policies of the Party and the government, from the social stability and ethnic unity, and from the ever-changing new era. There are so many happy families like mine around me.
Pompeo and Adrian Zenz lied with their eyes open, falsely claiming a series of lies, such as “eliminating Uygur culture", “genocide” and “forced labor”. However they lied, they could not erase the fact that people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang equally enjoy the right to education, employment, inheritance and development of their own excellent traditional culture. The proportion of Uygur leaders in my current work department is as high as 42.9%. Is it what Pompeo called “suppressing the human rights of Uygur people?”
I once worked in a department of religion. Since 2013, the state has invested more than 250 million yuan in the development of ethnic minorities in Hami City, focusing on the protection and construction of a number of villages featuring ethnic minority characteristic, ethnic minority traditional handicraft workshops, etc., and implemented the improvement of remote rural infrastructure, including reconstruction of dilapidated houses, facilities for drinking water for human and livestock and other policies involving vocational skill training for ethnic minority labor force, and embroidery training for ethnic minority women. A large number of livelihood projects have further accelerated the pace of poverty alleviation and prosperity of ethnic minorities. Many excellent traditional cultural fruits, such as Hami Uygur Muqam and ethnic embroidery, have been included in the intangible cultural heritage list, which has strengthened the protection and inheritance. Is this what Pompeo and Adrian Zenz call “the elimination of Uygur culture?”
Today Xinjiang presents a new look of sustained economic development, great improvement of people’s livelihood, great changes in urban and rural areas, great ethnic unity, and prosperous cultural heritage and religious harmony. The people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang will never tolerate any act that undermines the harmony and social stability of Xinjiang, and will never allow any external forces or individuals to interfere in China’s internal affairs. The people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang are confident with determination and capable of defeating the despicable plot of Pompeo and Adrian Zenz.
