Xinjiang to kick off cultural heritage celebration

The Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region will raise the curtain on a series of activities including exhibitions, speeches and intangible cultural heritage shopping festivals to celebrate the upcoming Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, which falls on Saturday.

The Xinjiang Intangible Cultural Heritage Week will also be celebrated from Saturday until June 18, with more than 170 activities that display and promote various examples of intangible cultural heritage across the region. For instance, performances of the folk songs of the Mongols, Uygurs and Kazaks will be staged in major scenic spots across Bortala Mongol autonomous prefecture in Xinjiang.

Meanwhile, 27 examples of traditional crafts will be selected to be showcased at an exhibition in Shanghai by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to recognize the achievements of China in the field.

The region also aims to push forward the rural revitalization process via the celebration. Shopping festivals that sell embroidery, pottery, wicker and other creative products related to intangible cultural heritage will kick off both online and offline in cities such as Urumqi and Turpan.

The activities enable more people to get closer to the charms of intangible cultural treasures, and they spread the regulations and rules related to the protection of these national treasures.
