China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region plans to invest 80 billion yuan ($12.54 billion) in transportation infrastructure in 2022. The announcement was made during the 2022 Xinjiang transportation department meeting on January 5.

The investments will help improve the quality of road transport services by improving the road planning system. It will also speed up the construction of major trans-regional passageways and promote the integrated development of transport and tourism.

The figure will likely increase to 220,000 kilometers during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), with an investment of 400 billion yuan in road construction.
