Guo Donglou is the head of Donglou Chankings Processing Farmers' Professional Cooperative. He came to Wuerhe Town of Wuerhe District in Karamay City, northwest China’s Xinjiang from Henan Province in 2004. One day in 2018, he saw that ripe apples planted by villagers fell on the ground and were difficult to sell, which was a pity, so he thought whether he could find new value in use in these small apples.

Guo Donglou took action at once. He inquired about the relevant information of making dried apple on the Internet, and bought machine to try again and again. However, he still failed after many attempts.

Temperature, slice thickness and time are all the elements of drying, and they are also the core technologies that must be mastered. Guo Donglou said that he was a farmer and lacked relevant professional knowledge. But with the help of relevant departments of Wuerhe Government and agricultural experts, he finally found a way to make dried apples dry and crisp. Relevant departments and agricultural experts in Wuerhe Town also helped him apply for trademark patents and many major scenic spots in Wuerhe District also provide free booths for him to sell.

In 2021, Guo Donglou’s dried apple was selected to the list of "Xinjiang Gifts", which doubled the sales of dried apple. And tourists will buy it as a gift when they come to Wuerhe Town.

Nowadays, with the help of tourist attractions such as "West Wuzhen" in Wuerhe District, Guo Donglou’s dried fruits sell well, and can sell up to 1000 orders a day in holiday.

With the arrival of the peak tourism season in Xinjiang, Guo Donglou finds more business opportunities. He said that the next step is to upgrade the equipment of the Cooperative, introduce fully automated production equipment, and strive for happiness with his own hands.
