The summer grain output of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region increased by 2.2 percent year-on-year to more than 6.55 million metric tons this year, local authorities said on Tuesday.
The total summer crop acreage in the region reached nearly about 1.16 million hectares in 2022, according to regional data.

To reduce the negative impact brought by surges of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sales of agricultural products, Xinjiang encourages large enterprises to help purchase and process the harvest and facilitate e-commerce to ensure farmers' interests are met.

"The local government would dispatch technicians to the field to instruct us how to water and spray insecticide in high temperatures," said Feng Rugang, a farmer from Qitai county in Changji Hui autonomous prefecture.
Li Jianjiang, a researcher at the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said a number of favorable policies have helped farmers overcome the negative effects of the pandemic and drought this year.

"Standardized cultivation of fields, the application of water using efficient irrigation systems and the use of high-quality crop varieties improved the land's output capacity," he added.
