Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Reporter Xie Huibian) news: As informed by the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued the “National Catalogue for the Promotion of Fine Crop Varieties (2023)”, and the cotton variety Yuanmian No. 11 (Yuanmian Xin 13305) selected and fostered by the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences was listed as a special-type machine-harvested cotton variety in the “National Catalogue for the Promotion of Fine Crop Varieties (2023)”.

According to the law of variety promotion and application, in the “National Catalogue for the Promotion of Fine Crop Varieties (2023)”, the promoted varieties are divided into four types: backbone type, growth type, seedling type and special type. Special type varieties are newly approved (registered), and they are those of high quality that can meet the diversified market consumption needs, and significantly improve the utilization of land, fertilizer and water, light and temperature, or those that have made breakthroughs and improvements in yield, resistance, quality, growth period, mechanization suitability, and suitability for new farming systems (such as regenerative rice, ribbon compound planting).

Yuanmian No. 11 was approved by the team of Li Xueyuan, a researcher at the Institute of Cash Crops of Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, in 2018. It has a growth period of 128 days, a pre-frost flower rate of 96.5%, a concentrated boll opening period, a boll weight of 6.2g, and a ginning outturn of 41.6%; its lint length is 30.6mm, strength to weight ratio 32.5cN/tex, gamma ray 4.2, and it is easy to be harvested by machine, sensitive to defoliant, resistant to wilt and verticillium wilt and barren, has good fabric quality and high defoliation rate with net picking rate over 95%.

From 2019 to 2020, Yu Shuxun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and relevant cotton experts conducted on-site evaluation of comprehensive agronomic supporting technology demonstration field of Yuanmian No. 11, and found that it can achieve an average mu yield of 583-690 kg, and the quality of cotton fiber reached the “double 31” standard.

This variety was listed as the recommended planting variety of the first division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC) in 2021, and was selected as the recommended planting variety of “one main and two auxiliaries” of the first and second divisions of the XPCC in 2022, and entered the sustainable development traceability supply chain of the China Cotton Association in 2021. Up to now in 2019, this variety has been promoted in Aral, Korla, Aksu and other places covering a total planting area of more than 1.5 million mu, achieving extra social and economic benefits of 35 million yuan.

The reporter learned that the “National Catalogue for the Promotion of Fine Crop Varieties (2023)” is released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs for the first time, which specially introduces 10 crops, including rice, wheat, corn, soybeans, rape, peanuts, potatoes, Chinese cabbage, kale and important strategic agricultural products (cotton) and their 241 excellent varieties, aiming to accelerate application and improve large-scale production per unit yield.
