Bosten Lake is the largest inland freshwater lake in China and one of the 22 important national wetlands in China. It covers an area of 1,646 square kilometers, with vast water areas and abundant water plants. In recent years, Bohu County of northwest China's Xinjiang has continuously optimized the wetland ecological environment through protection measures, such as conversion of farmland to wetland and conversion of grazing land to wetland, providing a good natural ecological environment for migratory birds to inhabit and reproduce. As the main habitat of waterfowl and an important channel of birds' migration, Bosten Lake has continuously enhanced its ecological function. Currently, it has become a natural place for birds to rest, forage, and breed during migration. A total of 198 species of birds, including swans, egrets, herons, and ruddy shelducks come here to breed every year, which makes it become one of the important habitats for wild birds in China.

“In order to provide a safer and better habitat for migratory birds, we intensify patrols of the lake area, conduct publicity for residents and tourists along the lake, and call on everyone to protect migratory birds, so as to provide a safe and comfortable habitat for birds,” said Chen Mengmeng, director of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau of Bohu County.
