UAV spraying 20 mu of wheat seedlings takes only 6 minutes

Shiliuyun - Xinjiang Daily (Reporter Han Qinyan) news: “If we spray pesticides ourselves for this 800 mu wheat field, it would take several people a week to complete, but with the help of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), we can finish it within a day.” Rezwangul Jumai, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) branch in Kashgar Runjiang agricultural production professional cooperative, said at Tugeqi Village in Shule County, Kashgar Prefecture, northwest China’s Xinjiang, March 22, 2023.

These days, the buzzing sounds of the machine come over the wheat fields of Tugeqi Village every now and then. We can see a drone loaded with biological pesticides, flexibly changing its speed and direction, spraying pesticides on the wheat field.

The wheat seedlings sway with the air waves and enjoy the "medicated bath". "It takes 6 minutes for a drone to spray pesticides on 20 mu of wheat seedlings," said Lv Xian, the operator of the unmanned aerial vehicle.

With his thumb up, the villager Mamatali Turdi expressed his mixed feelings to Lv Xian. “In the past, we used the old sprayer to spray pesticides, which is very inefficient, but now with the help of the unmanned aerial vehicle, it takes much less time and effort to spray pesticides for the same area, and the control effect is also better.”

Applying UAVs for field works is not only efficient and convenient, but also reduces the contamination of the field environment caused by pesticides and avoids the human health damage caused by manual spraying. And it can also greatly enhance the emergency response capability of agricultural plant protection to deal with fulminant and epidemic diseases and insect pests.

"We use drones to prevent and control the plant diseases and insect pests all these years, spraying an area of no less than 800 mu per day. More than 2700 mu of wheat fields planted by the cooperative can all be sprayed in 4 days." Rezwangul said.

Squatting on the edge of the field, looking at the green wheat seedlings, Rezwangul said confidently, "With experts guiding the sowing and management of wheat this year, the seedlings are in good condition and grow very well, so the yield will definitely increase."
