Apricots enter the harvest season in Toksun County, NW China’s Xinjiang

Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Correspondents: Li Jinghai, Hu Guokai) news: At present, golden apricots hang all over the branches in a ten thousand mu of apricot orchard in Toksun County, Turpan City, known as the "Hometown of Early Mature Apricots in China", and villagers are busy picking, sorting, and packing apricots. Buyers from all over the country are busy acquiring apricots.

On May 17, 2023, just after dawn, Ibrayim Simayil, a villager from Nanhu Village, Xia Town, Toksun County, started to pick apricots with his family. “I have a total of 10 mu of apricots, all planted in 2005. Last year, the income per mu of apricots reached 9,000 yuan. The yield of apricots in 2023 is particularly good, with a yield of more than 1 ton per mu,” said Ibrayim Simayil.

Toksun County belongs to a typical continental warm temperate desert climate, with sufficient sunlight and abundant heat, and a maximum of 3,135 hours of sunshine per year. Due to its unique geographical location and abundant light and heat resources, apricots in Toksun County ripen early and go on the market in mid-May every year.

In recent years, Toksun County has scientifically developed its characteristic forest and fruit industry mainly consisting of jujubes, apricots, and grapes. In 2014 and 2019, it was awarded the titles of "Hometown of Early Mature Jujubes in China" and "Hometown of Early Mature Apricots in China". As of the end of 2022, the total planting area of characteristic forests and fruits in Toksun County reached 161,300 mu.
