A dragon boat race in Aksu Prefecture, NW China’s Xinjiang

On June 19,2023, the first Dragon Boat Race in Kalatale Town, Aksu City was held in Xianglong Lake, Aksu City, Aksu Prefecture, northwest China’s Xinjiang.

With the sound of the starting gun, the competition officially began. Audience cheered for the racing boats with drums and shouts. The participating dragon boats were like arrows departing from the strings, striving to be the first.

On the meadows by the lake, thousands of spectators indulged themselves in the festive joy with the flags fluttering on both sides as the racing dragon boats competed. All the rowers in the boat worked together towards the finishing line.

With a total of 10 participating teams, this dragon boat competition has spontaneously organized farmer representative teams, government representative teams, as well as enterprise and public institution representative teams such as schools. The event also invited two representative teams from Matan Town.

Aimaier Tuerdi, a dragon boat rower, said, “I used to like watching the dragon boat race on TV. Unexpectedly, a dragon boat race was held in Aksu City this year. I signed up without hesitation.”
