Every week, trucks loaded with international mail drive into China Post Xinjiang Branch Urumqi International Mail Exchange Bureau on schedule, and under the supervision of customs officers of the Urumqi Post Office, bags of mail are sorted into categories, and then dispatched to five Central Asian countries, Moscow of Russia and 16 countries in Europe after being inspected and released by the customs.
This year, Cainiao, the logistics arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, opened the Central Asia line, where the mail is processed by the International Mail Exchange Bureau of Urumqi and sent directly to Kazakhstan, then to other Central Asian countries, which has been contributing to the increase of international mail in Xinjiang. The chief of the Urumqi International Mail Exchange Bureau, Ma Ling, introduced that last year, in order to cope with this rapid growth and also guarantee smooth delivery, China Post Xinjiang Branch implemented highway truck shuttle transport, mainly transporting surface international mail and mail that cannot be transported by air. This transport line operates together with railroads, highways and air ways, promoting efficient and orderly transit of international mail from five Central Asian countries and the 16 countries in Europe here.
With the promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative, Xinjiang has fully utilized its location advantages, and witnessed a significant increase in its international mail. In 2022, China Post Xinjiang Branch’s revenue growth rate from the international business ranked third among China Post offices all around China, with the full-year revenue target achieved 93 days ahead of schedule.
