Road of Prosperity: China's new energy vehicles’ journey towards Central Asia

Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily(Reporter Li Hua, Liu Xiang, Hei Hongwei) news: On the morning of September 22, 2023, the streets of Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, were crowded with vehicles. Among them, the new energy vehicles “Manufactured in China” are particularly eye-catching. They have a fashionable appearance and excellent performance.

At the Irkeshtam Port in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a fleet of trucks loaded with dozens of new energy vehicles successfully cleared customs, heading towards Central Asian countries such as Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

At almost the same time, Ivan, the general manager of the Tashkent Sales Branch of Ili Xinghe Trading Co., Ltd., received a message, "The cars have finished customs clearance.”

The person sending this message is Diao Zhenglin, the general manager of Ili Xinghe Trading Co., Ltd. in Xinjiang. He and Ivan, one being responsible for foreign business and the other for domestic business" helps domestic new energy vehicles be exported to Uzbekistan.

Ili Xinghe Trading Co., Ltd. started as a domestic engineering machinery export enterprise. In 2019, after investigation, Diao Zhenglin began to focus on the new energy vehicle market in Uzbekistan and Central Asia.

At the beginning of 2021, the Tashkent Sales Branch of Ili Xinghe Trading Co., Ltd. established a China New Energy Vehicle Exhibition Hall in the local area. In the spacious and bright hall, new energy vehicles of various Chinese brands are neatly arranged, with trendy and cool designs.

“Domestic construction machinery has now entered overseas markets with its high quality," Diao Zhenglin said. With the global green and low-carbon transformation, the rich product types and excellent product quality of China’s new energy vehicles have been widely recognized by the market, and their influence continues to increase. The pace of "going out" is constantly accelerating.

At the end of March this year, Diao Zhenglin visited Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan with the China's Xinjiang friendly exchange delegation, bringing back a large number of orders for the company and further expanding the Central Asian market. At present, these new energy vehicles are being transported out of Horgos Port, Alataw Pass, Turgat Port, Irkeshtam Port and other ports every day.

Answering phone calls, sending emails, providing services for customers... Ivan is very busy with more and more orders. “Since the beginning of this year, our company has sold 250 new energy vehicles made in China. It is expected that the total sales volume for the year will reach around 350 units," he said. Local people said that Chinese new energy vehicles are the future.

Diao Zhenglin, who has been doing business for many years, understands that good products and services are always the foundation.

Nowadays, in the urban area of Tashkent, China's new energy vehicles are not only limited to civilian use, but there are also more and more electric buses made in China purchased by the government. So Ivan believes that China’s new energy vehicles are crucial for promoting the popularization of new energy vehicles in Tashkent and the development of related industries.

At present, charging pile construction projects for new energy vehicles in Uzbekistan are rapidly rising, "said Ivan. As far as he knows, multiple Chinese charging pile production enterprises are conducting project and doing many works such as equipment transportation, installation and operations assistance in Uzbekistan.

There are many Chinese new energy vehicle sales companies, such as Ili Xinghe Trading Co., Ltd., in Uzbekistan, and some Chinese new energy vehicle companies have directly opened their 4S stores in Tashkent.

The competition in the new energy vehicle market becomes increasingly fierce, but Ivan believes that this is a good thing.

“From the perspective of store managers, competition can motivate us to continuously improve; while from the perspective of locals, the increase in sales stores and 4S stores is conducive to reducing the prices of new energy vehicles,” Ivan said," I hope more people of Uzbekistan can drive high-quality new energy vehicles from China.”

Ivan believes that in the next five to ten years, Chinese automobile companies will export more new energy vehicles to Uzbekistan, and accelerate their production plans in Central Asia.
