Kashi, formerly known as Shule, is located at the intersection of the ancient Silk Road in the north and south. Nowadays, Kashi is an important pivot city in the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the starting point of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. With Kunlun Mountains in the south and Tianshan Mountain in the north, Kashi has the location advantage of having five national first-class ports that can lead to eight countries. For thousands of years, the Silk Road has become more convenient because of Kashi, and Kashi has also become more prosperous due to the Silk Road.
In 2009, the comprehensive management project for the renovation of dangerous buildings in the old town of Kashi was fully advanced. The country invested more than 7 billion yuan (about 976.6 million U.S. dollars) to renovate the old town of Kashi. This not only protected the overall style of the old town, but also met the seismic requirements. The scenic area and residential areas were integrated, and more than a hundred shops, including ethnic clothing stores, bronze ware stores, and tourist souvenir stores, were distributed in the streets and alleys. With its unique folk customs, the old town of Kashi has become the most popular place for tourists from home and abroad.
Kashi, with its long history, is full of vitality and attracts people from all over the world.
