The second session of the 14th People's Congress of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the second session of the 13th Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Committee of the CPPCC opened in Urumqi on January 30 and January 29, 2024, respectively. For the first time, foreign guests and media were invited to sit in on or cover the annual meetings of Xinjiang's lawmakers and political advisors.

Sohail Khan, deputy secretary-general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, said that Xinjiang will get a lot of opportunities to uplift the economy, and that social advancement may take place in the coming days.
