Gazella subgutturosa forage in Qitai County, NW China’s Xinjiang

As the weather warms in the northern Gobi Desert of Qitai County in Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, some vegetation such as red willow, sacsaoul, and camel thorn has begun to sprout, attracting herds of Gazella subgutturosa to forage here. Flocks of Gazella subgutturosa roam at the Gobi Desert, sometimes stop and stare into the distance or frolic and run. They forage leisurely with an elegant expression, just like "elves," becoming a beautiful scenery on the Gobi Desert in spring.

Gazella subgutturosa is a national second-level protected wild animal, commonly known as "long-tailed yellow sheep," and mostly inhabits desert and semi desert areas at an altitude of 300 to 3,000 meters. Gazella subgutturosa are mostly active during the day and often form small groups of several to dozens. They are good at running and feeding on plants such as grass.

In recent years, Qitai County has adhered to ecological priority and green development, and continuously strengthened measures for biodiversity protection, and the number of wild animal populations has been increasing year by year. The effectiveness of biodiversity protection has become increasingly evident, providing better conditions for the survival and reproduction of wild animals such as Gazella subgutturosa.
