SUZHOU, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Janja Garnbret of Slovenia topped the route to claim the women's Lead gold at the 2024 IFSC Climbing World Cup here on Sunday, while Britain's Toby Roberts won the men's category.
Following a Boulder gold from Keqiao last week, world No. 1 Garnbret had been left unchallenged in Wujiang as the only climber in both men's and women's draws to top all routes in the qualification, semifinal and the final.
"I was just having a lot of fun and just excited to be back competing. I had a good start back with Boulder and I hoped I would have the same with Lead, and I guess my Lead shape is as good as Boulder," Garnbret said.
"I'm excited now to go back home and get some more training in before I return to do the World Cup in Innsbruck where I will do Boulder and Lead, and then it's Paris," she added.
China's Luo Zhilu clinched silver with hold 44+ in front of the home crowd at the Foho Cultural and Sports Center in Wujiang, east China's Jiangsu Province, which is her first-ever Lead medal at the world cup. Seo Chae-hyun of South Korea took the bronze with hold 43+.
On the men's side, despite both making hold 36+ in the final, Roberts' better result from the semifinal secured the gold, while Japan's Taisei Homma had to settle for silver. Sorato Anraku of Japan pocketed the bronze.
"Preparation for Paris is going well and I'm using this competition to see how I am doing after a hard winters training and I just enjoy competing on the comp circuit. So things are going well," said Roberts.
