Xinjiang sees increase in the export volume of fruit by nearly 20 pct in Q1 year-on-year

Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Reporter Cao Hua) news: According to the Customs Statistics Query Platform of the General Administration of Customs, the export volume of fruits from Xinjiang increased rapidly in the first quarter of 2024, with a total export volume of 46,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 19.7 percent, and an export value of 532 million yuan (about 73.19 million U.S. dollars).

From January to March 2024, Xinjiang exported fruits involving walnuts, Badam, grapes, wolfberries, jujubes, pears, apples and other 10 varieties, of which the largest export amount of walnuts, amounting to 270 million yuan (about 37.15 million U.S. dollars), accounting for about half of the total amount of exports of Xinjiang’s fruits in the first quarter. The second is fresh grapes, with an export amount of 80.98 million yuan (about 11.14 million U.S. dollars), accounting for approximately 15 percent of the total export amount. Pear ranks third with an export value of 75.27 million yuan (about 10.36 million U.S. dollars), accounting for approximately 14 percent of the total export amount.

According to the data of the first quarter of 2024, there was strong demand for Xinjiang pear products in the international market, with exports increasing by 314 percent compared to the same period last year. Export destinations are mainly concentrated in Southeast Asian and Central Asian countries, such as Indonesia, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, etc. Southeast Asia and Central Asia are currently the main markets for Xinjiang pear exports. In addition, Xinjiang raisins, which have a high reputation in domestic and international dried fruit markets, exported 51.89 million yuan (about 7.19 million U.S. dollars) in the first quarter of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 191 percent, and were exported to 18 countries including the United Kingdom, Japan, Russia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Romania, etc. The exported apples from Xinjiang also achieved significant growth in the first quarter of 2024, with an export of 43.89 million yuan (about 6.1 million U.S. dollars), a year-on-year increase of 65 percent, mainly exported to Kyrgyzstan and Nepal.

In recent years, relying on the advantages of characteristic forest and fruit resources, Xinjiang has increased efforts to cultivate forest and fruit export enterprises and actively explored international markets. According to statistics from the Xinjiang Forestry and Fruit Industry Development Center, Xinjiang has exported approximately two billion yuan (about 275.39 million U.S. dollars) of various fruit products in 2023, an increase of nearly 80 percent compared to 2022. Xinjiang's high-quality fruits have been exported to more than 30 countries and regions, including Central Asia, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
