Online retail sales in Xinjiang maintains double-digit growth in H1

Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Reporter Hei Hongwei) news: As informed by the Department of Commerce of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on July 19, 2024, the online retail market in Xinjiang has maintained a positive trend in the first half of this year, with a YoY increase of 15 percent in total online retail sales, indicating strong consumer demand for characteristic products and services from Xinjiang.

According to the data, physical online retail sales in Xinjiang witnessed a 12 percent increase in the first half of the year compared to the corresponding period last year, exhibiting a growth rate that is 3 percentage points higher than the national average. Notably, sectors such as food and health products, clothing and accessories, and sports and outdoor goods have demonstrated remarkable growth rates, emerging as significant catalysts for driving up online retail sales.

Xinjiang has also made significant progress in innovating consumption scenarios and cultivating new forms of consumption. By continuously expanding the supply of high-quality cultural and tourism products, Xinjiang's online tourism, leisure entertainment, and lifestyle services have demonstrated evident growth momentum. In the first half of this year, service-oriented online retail sales in Xinjiang increased by 22 percent compared to the same period last year, surpassing the national average growth rate by 5.6 percentage points. Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Aksu Prefecture and Kashi Prefecture have experienced rapid growth in service-oriented online retail sales.

It is noteworthy that the rapid development of rural e-commerce in Xinjiang has emerged as a significant highlight in the growth trajectory of online retail sales during the first half of this year. By expediting the establishment of rural live-streaming e-commerce bases and fostering digital consumption scenarios in rural areas, the scale of rural e-commerce in Xinjiang has experienced exponential expansion. In comparison to last year, rural online retail sales in Xinjiang witnessed a 20 percent increase during the first half of this year, surpassing the national average growth rate by 5.8 percentage points. Within the framework of rural online retail, both physical goods and service-based sales have demonstrated steady growth, with a particularly remarkable surge observed in service-based online retail sales which accounted for 47 percent, marking an increment of 1.7 percentage points from last year.

Additionally, Xinjiang actively promotes the innovative development of rural commercial and trade logistics, facilitating the growth of the 'e-commerce + origin warehouse + express delivery logistics' model, thereby effectively enhancing agricultural product distribution efficiency. In the first half of this year, Xinjiang witnessed a 16 percent increase in online retail sales of agricultural products compared to last year, with fruits, nuts, livestock, and poultry occupying a pivotal position in online retail sales and emerging as a key pillar within Xinjiang's e-commerce industry. Among various agricultural product categories, dates, raisins, walnuts and other commodities enjoy significant consumer preference.

Live-streaming e-commerce, as an exemplar of emerging business formats and models, has exhibited a thriving trajectory in its development within Xinjiang. During the first half of this year, Xinjiang witnessed a remarkable 56 percent surge in online retail sales through live-streaming compared to the corresponding period last year, with an impressive cumulative viewership of 500 million individuals tuning into live-streaming - an astounding increase of 84 percent. The total count of live-streaming reached an impressive figure of 45,000 sessions, showcasing a commendable growth rate of 67 percent. The rapid advancement of live-streaming e-commerce has infused fresh impetus and vitality into Xinjiang's e-commerce industry while endowing consumers with enhanced convenience, intuitive interfaces, and delightful shopping experiences.
