Ecological restoration in Sayram Lake, NW China's Xinjiang

Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Reporter Otkur Nijat) news: In the fall, the Sayram Lake scenic area is like an exquisite ecological painting. Located in Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Sayram Lake scenic area has been designated as a national-level scenic spot and a national wetland park.

In recent years, Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture has made great efforts to improve its ecological environment and promote tourism development. Prioritizing environmental protection and ecological restoration, the prefecture has harmoniously integrated ecological conservation and tourism growth. Through years of unwavering commitment, the degraded grasslands in the core area of Sayram Lake have undergone a remarkable transformation. Vegetation has been meticulously restored, achieving a recovery rate of over 95 percent in the core scenic area.

Today, Sayram Lake attracts countless travelers from near and far with its crystal-clear waters, azure skies, and vibrant meadows. As of September 26, 2024, the Sayram Lake scenic area has welcomed 5.8365 million visitors, representing a 33.48 percent year-on-year increase. This surge in tourism generated a total of 4.118 billion yuan (about 587.35 million U.S. dollars) in consumption, a 32.15 percent increase compared to the previous year.
