Learning a Uygur Phrase: A Cultural Exchange at the 6th World Media Summit

At the 6th World Media Summit in Xinjiang, we joined journalists from around the globe on a journey to explore Turpan, a vital hub on the ancient Silk Road that linked eastern and western civilizations. This region has a rich history, with many scripts discovered here, including Old Uygur, Sanskrit, Chagatai, Hebrew, and Syriac.

Surrounded by so many international voices, I decided to learn a Uygur phrase to share with others. A local mentioned that one phrase you simply must learn while visiting is, "The grapes in Turpan are very sweet" in Uygur. Knowing this phrase will surely bring a smile to the locals! Click the video to see how many people can say it in the end.
