Oscar set for Sao Paulo return

RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar is close to rejoining his former club Sao Paulo after parting ways with Chinese Super League (CSL) club Shanghai Port, according to widespread media reports in Brazil.

Oscar has agreed in principle to a three-year contract and will undergo a medical later this week, Globo Esporte reported.

The 33-year-old is expected to join the Brazilian club on a pre-season training camp in the United States starting on January 8, 2025.

Oscar made 248 appearances across all competitions for Shanghai Port following his 2017 arrival from Chelsea. He scored 77 goals and provided 141 assists during his time in China, helping Shanghai Port to three CSL titles.

He enjoyed one of his best seasons in 2024 with 14 goals and 24 assists in the top flight as Shanghai Port secured the title by finishing one point ahead of second-placed Shanghai Shenhua.

Oscar began his professional career at Sao Paulo in 2008 and moved to Internacional in 2010 before his high-profile transfer to Chelsea two years later. He has been capped 48 times for Brazil and was a member of Luiz Felipe Scolari's side that won the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup on home soil.
