In January 2024, the column InXinjiang was launched. Over the past year, it has interviewed and reported on more than 60 foreigners from over 30 countries. Initially, some interviewees arrived in China’s Xinjiang with feelings of anxiety and even fear, largely shaped by the misleading narratives presented by Western media. However, once they explored the mountains, lakes, towns, and villages of Xinjiang and experienced the local customs and daily life of the people in Xinjiang, their perspectives began to change. The stereotypes once formed due to those false reports gradually faded away, replaced by the authentic experiences of Xinjiang that they witnessed firsthand. As 2024 comes to a close, let us listen to the truth about Xinjiang from expat eyes.
