On January 25, 2025, Wang Ziyang, a 21-year-old snowboarder from Urumqi City, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, made history in Chinese snowboarding. At the 2025 X Games in Aspen, Colorado, he won the gold medal in the men's snowboard knuckle huck event. Wang Ziyang became the first Chinese athlete to win a gold medal in this event and also became the first athlete from Xinjiang to win a world championship in winter sports.
