China's government work report for 2025, has proposed making thorough efforts to develop a unified national market.
In alignment with national priorities and leveraging its unique strengths, Xinjiang is accelerating the development of key tasks such as oil and gas exploration, production capacity enhancement, clean and efficient utilization of coal, and the construction of new power systems. These efforts aim to provide a solid and reliable energy foundation to build a modern socialist country in all respects in the new era.
To promote the transformation of Xinjiang's natural gas resource advantages into economic benefits, China launched the west-to-east gas transmission project. As of December 30, 2024, the west-to-east gas pipeline has sent nearly one trillion cubic meters of natural gas to eastern China since it was officially put into operation in 2004, benefiting nearly 500 million people across 28 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities.
Xinjiang has been accelerating the release of advanced coal production capacity, with continuous growth in coal transportation. During the 13th Five-Year Plan, 69.39 million tons of coal were transported out of Xinjiang. This figure reached 43.87 million tons in 2021, exceeded 88 million tons in 2022, surpassed 100 million tons in 2023, and reached 140 million tons in 2024.
Xinjiang is actively advancing the development of modern coal chemical industries to convert its coal resource advantages into industrial growth.

Currently, a number of coal-to-olefins, coal-to-oil and gas, and coal-to-methanol projects in Xinjiang are accelerating construction and progress.
The West Pipeline Company under China Oil & Gas Pipeline Network Corporation (PipeChina) has planned to construct a coal-to-gas pipeline, which will link up coal-derived gas from Zhundong with the West-to-East Gas Pipeline, enabling its distribution and sale to east China's Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces, as well as central China.
Xinjiang is leveraging its rich coal and renewable energy resources to generate electricity, which has been delivered to more than 20 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across China. In 2024, Xinjiang transmitted over 126.4 billion kWh of locally generated electricity to other parts of the country. Of this total, more than 30 percent came from renewable energy. Once the third ultra-high voltage flexible direct current (UHVDC) transmission project is fully operational, the proportion of new energy in the transmitted electricity is expected to reach 50 percent.
Xinjiang is not only a key contributor to the national energy market through its oil, gas, coal, and electricity supplies but also a vital provider of high-quality agricultural products. Premium beef and lamb, dried and fresh fruits, and the recently emerging fish products from Xinjiang have also made their way to dining tables across the country, captivating consumers outside the region.
In the future, the presence of "Xinjiang" will become even more prominent in the nation's fruit baskets, meat supplies, and grain reserves, further solidifying the region's contribution to the country's food security and economic development.
