Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Reporter Wei Yonggui) news: On March 4, 2025, in the southern circular economy industrial park of Hami High-tech Industrial Development Zone in Hami City, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the first batch of products from the diamond production line invested and built by Xinjiang Runjing Technology Co., Ltd. was successfully rolled off the production line. This marks the first diamond production line to go into operation in Xinjiang.
"According to the plan, the project's production capacity will reach one billion carats, which is equivalent to 200 tons," said Fan Zhen, the technical director of Xinjiang Runjing Technology Co., Ltd. He added that currently there are only 20 pieces of production equipment on the production line, but the number will soon be increased to around 80, and eventually more than 200. "Starting production is just the first step. At present, the products are mainly used for coating drill bits to increase their hardness. In the future, the company aims to build a complete industrial chain, including graphite mining, tool processing, and the production and processing of diamonds and jewelry diamonds, with a target output value of more than 150 million yuan (about 21.74 million U.S. dollars)."

Diamond is a mineral composed of carbon and is the hardest natural material. It is an allotrope of graphite and the raw form of the common jewelry diamond. The production of synthetic diamond uses graphite as the raw material. Under high temperature and high pressure, the graphite structure will undergo an orderly transformation to form synthetic diamond. Diamond has excellent mechanical, electrical, thermal, acoustic, optical, and corrosion-resistant properties, and can be widely used in mechanical manufacturing, aerospace, jewelry, optical components, semiconductor components, and quantum technology.
The diamond production line launched by the company this time adopts the most advanced domestic and international manufacturing processes, capable of producing high-quality industrial diamond single crystals. It can also produce jewelry diamonds through high-pressure and high-temperature methods. Fan said that the company has also planned for the production of synthetic diamonds, which could be widely used in the jewelry industry.

"Xinjiang is rich in mineral resources and has a fast and promising economic development. As a super-hard material, diamond will serve important industries in Xinjiang, such as oil and gas drilling, mining, metal material processing, metallurgy, and power generation. We are confident that we can build an important diamond production base in Hami for the whole country and Central Asia," said Fan.
It is reported that China's synthetic diamond industry is mainly concentrated in central China’s Henan Province. The country has been the world's largest producer of synthetic diamonds and synthetic jewelry diamonds for many years, forming a basic production pattern that in the global diamond industry, China is a key player; and within China, Henan stands out in the diamond sector.
