Robots from Spring Festival Gala to be deployed in Xinjiang's tourist attractions

Shiliuyun-Xinjiang Daily (Reporter Zhang Xiaomi) news: The robots that wowed audiences at this year's Spring Festival Gala are set to be deployed in Xinjiang's tourist attractions. On March, 2025, they made their local debut at the 2025 Xinjiang Cultural Tourism Industry Trade Expo, the 6th Xinjiang Spring Tourism Expo, and the 2nd Xinjiang Museum Technology and Cultural Relics Conservation Expo.

"Look, they're just like the robots from the Spring Festival Gala!" exclaimed a visitor. "Can they dance the same way? Show us something!"

At the booth of the Xinjiang Tourist Attractions Association, a crowd gathered, snapping photos with their phones. The robot, standing 1.3 meters tall and weighing 35 kilograms, performed on stage, waving and greeting the audience before walking up to shake hands with viewers. It is 40 centimeters shorter than the robots that appeared on the Spring Festival Gala stage in the Year of the Snake.

Zhang Xu, the marketing director of the Xinjiang branch of Shanghai Milkway Big Data Technology Co., Ltd., explained that the shorter height was chosen to facilitate better interaction with children. The company has been working with the Xinjiang Tourist Attractions Association, "feeding" the robots with information about Xinjiang's cultural tourism resources to prepare them for their new roles.

Li Lei, the secretary-general of the Xinjiang Tourist Attractions Association, said the robots are in intensive "training" and could be deployed to various tourist attractions as early as July. Several tourist attractions have already expressed interest in purchasing them.

Once deployed, these robots will serve as tour guides, docents, and even dancers at the attractions. They will teach visitors to sing and dance, engage in interactive conversations, and help improve the smart tourism system through visitor experience enhancement, data analysis, and promotional activities. "The integration of culture, tourism, and technology will drive the 'smart' development of Xinjiang's cultural tourism industry," Li said.
