How is the female auxiliary police officer who saved a toddler from a 40-meter-deep well ?

On April 16, 2025, at 10:45 a.m., the Hanggui Police Station of Lop County Public Security Bureau in Lop County, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, received an alarm from a local resident stating that his two-year-old child had accidentally fallen into a 40-meter-deep dry well while playing.

Upon receiving the alarm, police officers immediately rushed to the location and contacted the fire department, hospital, and other relevant authorities. When police arrived, they found the toddler about 40 meters down the well, with half her body submerged in mud.

Rescue workers first supplied oxygen into the well to ensure the child's breathing, while continuously talking to the trapped child to calm her down. However, the well opening was less than 40 centimeters in diameter, making it impossible for anyone present then to climb down.

" I can go down," Bupatam Abdukader, an auxiliary police officer from Hanggui Police Station who was on the scene for the rescue, volunteered. She was 1.55 meters in height and weighed just 40 kilograms. Soon, with the help of rescue workers, she fastened a safety rope around her waist and was lowered vertically down to the bottom of the well.

The oxygen level in the well was low, and Bupatam Abdukader began to feel suffocated and experienced dizziness and tinnitus before she even reached the bottom. She took deep breaths to stay conscious, strove to pull the little girl out of the mud bit by bit, and swiftly secured the child with a safety rope. During the ascent, concerned about the child getting injured, she used her body to shield the child's head the entire way up.

With everyone working together, the toddler was safely lifted out of the well.

According to information received, both the rescued child and Bupatam Abdukader are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, with all health indicators stable.

"The doctor said there's nothing seriously wrong with me. I've already felt much better after oxygen therapy, and I'll be able to get back to work soon," Bupatam Abdukader said. As instructed by the doctors, Bupatam Abdukader needs to regularly wear an oxygen mask. However, ever since she started bed rest for treatment, she has been preoccupied with thoughts of her work and can hardly wait to be discharged from the hospital.

Bupatam Abdukader's elder brother, Rozimaiketi Abdukader, was also a police auxiliary in the Public Security Bureau of Lop County. Influenced by her brother, Bupatam, who graduated from college in May 2023 with dreams of becoming a police officer, joined the Hanggui Police Station of Lop County Public Security Bureau. Known for her dedication, amiable attitude, and talents in singing and dancing, Bupatam is endearingly referred to as "Officer Xiaobu" by the local people.

After extensive coverage by various media outlets and platforms, Bupatam Abdukader's heroic deeds have touched the hearts of countless people and have garnered strong attention from all sectors of society.

The rescued child's parents also came with their child. "My wife and I are very grateful to you," he said, holding the child and approaching Bupatam Abdukader to express his thanks. He instructed his child, "You must never forget this sister and always be thankful to her!"
