Bangladesh's inflation eases slightly in April

DHAKA, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's inflation decreased to 9.17 percent in April from 9.35 percent in March, according to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

The consumer price index released by the BBS showed that food inflation decreased to 8.63 percent in April from 8.93 percent in the previous month.

Inflation for non-food items decreased to 9.61 percent in April from 9.70 percent in March, the data showed.

The inflation rate, announced at 6.5 percent for the 2024-25 fiscal year during the budget proposal on June 6, 2024, has been revised to 6 percent.

Bangladesh's average inflation surged to 9.73 percent in the fiscal year 2023-24 (from July 2023 to June 2024), much higher than the budgetary target of 7.5 percent for the fiscal year.

In the previous 2022-23 fiscal year, overall inflation was 9.02 percent.
