At present, the Bosten Lake in Bohu County, Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is full of life and energy, as thousands of waterfowl are successively welcoming their lovely babies.

On May 6, 2025, in the southwestern area of Bosten Lake, young cormorants, seagulls, egrets, wild geese and other birds have hatched one after another. Adorable cormorant babies emerge from their mother's wings, lying on their backs and crying for food. The cormorant couple take turns to work together, one goes fishing while the other feeds the chicks. At the Luhuagang of Bosten Lake, groups of baby wild ducks, led by their parents, embark on outings together. The little ones mimic their parents' movements as they waddle, swim in the water, or forage in the grass, their adorable and clumsy appearances being quite endearing.

Li Jinshan, a staff member at the Wetland Station of the Forestry and Grassland Bureau of Bohu County, said, "The wetland area in Bohu County is approximately 157,371 hectares, with over 200 bird species currently monitored. The breeding season generally starts in mid-March and ends in late June each year. During this period, we have set up seven observation points and four monitoring routes in the bird breeding areas around Bosten Lake, and we organize regular patrols."

Bosten Lake is the largest inland freshwater lake in China, with a water area of 1,646 square kilometers. The Bosten Lake National Wetland Park in Bohu County is one of the important stopover for migratory and breeding birds. According to the latest monitoring data, over ten thousand waterbirds have been observed breeding in the park, with the most common species being egrets, herons, wild ducks, gulls, and cormorants. In recent years, Bohu County has continuously optimized the wetland ecological environment through measures such as returning farmland to wetlands and returning pastures to wetlands, providing a favorable natural ecological environment for migratory birds to inhabit and breed.
