In October 2023, 23 young sinologists from 21 countries, including the Philippines, Germany, Argentina, and Uzbekistan, visited Urumqi City, the old town of Kashi in Kashi Prefecture, the Jiaohe Ancient City and the Karez in Turpan City. Through this visit to Xinjiang, they gained a comprehensive and objective understanding of the region's economic and social development and the development of the ancient Silk Road.
Ethiopian policy analysts Dareskedar Taye Mengist and Adane Kassie Bezabih expressed their views on topics related to the Belt and Road Initiative. They also stated that the lies and reports from Western media about “genocide” and “forced labor” in Xinjiang have led to a misguided perception of China's Xinjiang. Through the trip, they saw the real Xinjiang. The happy life of people of all ethnic groups provides solid evidence that human rights in Xinjiang are well respected and protected.
